Update: Publishing problems are nearly sorted out. The book is now available at many locations, such as Barnes and Nobles, Kobo, Bookshop, and even Amazon, which has both eBook and paperback form.
The book is out. Sort of.
For people who’ve read Horizon Now and are wondering where the second book is, it’s been an ordeal. I originally slated this book to be released on November 13th after a month of building hype and collecting pre-orders. Thanks to Amazon, none of that happened. I submitted “Horizon Frontier” to them a month ago, only for it to sit in their review queue for the entire month. During this time, I could not edit, update, remove, or reschedule anything regarding the book. And any attempt to contact their customer service resulted in all various phrasings of, “We’re experiencing technical problems. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you for your patience.” And that’s it. No explanation as to what the technical problems were, or an estimate on when the problem would resolve.
And as it turns out, it never resolved. The November 13th date came and went, and because I’d never had the opportunity to upload a manuscript, Amazon’s automatic system withdrew my book, refunded all pre-orders (of which there were none, because I was never allowed a book page for it), and gave me a reprimand about allowing this to happen.
After that, I tried to restart the publishing process, but no. Apparently, after a book “fails” on Amazon, it’s ISBN number becomes locked, and Amazon will no longer allow it to publish through KDP at all. Ever.
A week ago, I pushed this book to IngramSpark in a hope to publish in some other way, and that sort of worked. As of today, IngramSpark says the book is published, but I’m not sure what that means, because I can’t find it anywhere. I’m very new to IngramSpark. And unfortunately, it seems as though because I have submitted manuscripts to Amazon, they cannot allow my books to appear on Amazon through their partnership. I’m still waiting to hear back from IngramSpark for clarification on this.
Anyway, all of this applies to only the eBook. In theory, I should be able to release the paperback of Horizon Frontier, which was also supposed to be yesterday, but due to other problems out of my hands, that had to be pushed back a week. I’ll post a link for that as soon as it’s available.
As for an eBook version of Horizon Frontier, I have no idea how that’s going to unfold. The publishing of this trilogy has been thoroughly borked, and I’m still trying to salvage the publishing, but you may have to bear with me. I’ll let you all know when books become available, but I’m not going to promise any more release dates.
As for Book 3, Horizon Future? That’s supposed to come out in early December, but thanks to this whole problem, and some mistakes on my part, it’s publishing is already shaping up to be pretty broken, so I’m just going to say, “It’ll be out when it’s out.”
